Need More Help?
Department of Human Services
If you need more help supporting your family’s basic needs such as food and healthcare, you may want to check your eligibility for DHS (Department of Human Services) benefits.
DHS offers the following services:
Families First is a temporary assistance program for needy families living in Tennessee. Families who qualify for Families First benefits receive monthly cash payments. Tennessee does not have a general assistance program for adults who do not care for dependent children in their homes.
The Food Stamp program helps low-income families buy nutritious food they otherwise could not afford. Food Stamp benefits are also available to qualifying families, elderly people, and single adults.
Medicaid is a type of health insurance for low-income families, children, and disabled or elderly adults. Unlike regular health insurance, you do not have to pay for Medicaid coverage. You will receive most Medicaid services for free.
